I was very scared of Rishi Kapoor initially: Anushka Sharma
'His (Rishi's) demeanor was such that he was very intimidating. But I realised that actually he is a very cool person. He cracks lots of jokes and used to keep pulling my leg all the time,' Anushka told IANS in an interview.
'Later on, the ice was broken, but initially I was very scared because he comes across as a very strict person,' she added.
With three successful films under her belt, Anushka is happy to claim that she is regarded as a bankable actor.
'After 'Band Baaja Baaraat', people are viewing me differently. I have been seen as a bankable actor. So, a lot of good things, a lot of appreciation. I am feeling comfortable in the industry,' she said.
'Band Baaja Baaraat' completes her three-film contract with Yash Raj Films that gave her the first break opposite superstar Shah Rukh Khan in 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi' in 2008 and then her role in 'Badmaash Company'.
For 'Band Baaja Baarat', Anushka shared the best actress trophy at the Apsara Awards 2011 with Vidya Balan, who won it for 'Ishqiya'.
The model-turned actress consciously avoids to be typecast and feels lucky that she got to do distinctly different characters in all the four films, including 'Patiala House', she has done so far.
'Right after my first film, I went and signed 'Badmaash Company', which was right opposite of my debut character,' Anushka said.
'That was exciting because I know my value and I know that I am capable of doing a lot more. So I only choose and work with people who have faith in my capabilities as an actor,' she added.
'I don't want to work with people who would take me in an easy way and cast me in something which I have done before. So far I am lucky that I have worked with people who have given me different kinds of films,' she added.
Asked what exactly she looks at while choosing a film, the actress said: 'When I read a script, the first thing I see is whether I would be watching this film and be entertained.'
'Then I see my role in the film. Is it challenging enough? Is it going to make any difference in my career?' she added.
The 22-year old trusted the same instincts while signing 'Patiala House', where she plays actor Akshay Kumar's muse.
Directed by Nikhil Advani, 'Patiala House' shows how a second-generation Sikh Guttu (Akshay Kumar) and his siblings in London held back their dreams out of love and respect for their authoritarian father (Rishi Kapoor).
But Guttu meets Simran (Anushka) who gives him the strength to stand up once again to fulfil his dream.
This cross-generation drama is about second chances.
Anushka personally never had to bear any such family obligation while either choosing modelling or acting as a profession. But she said she could easily relate to it.
'I wanted to be a model, my parents were okay with that. I wanted to be an actor, my parents were okay with that too. That way, I have been lucky. But I know someone who has (strict parents) so I can empathise and relate to it,' she said.
Working with Akshay was a learning experience for Anushka.
'He is super professional. He does very small, small things, which are subtle and funny. That is something I learnt from him - to be aware of small things, not only of big things,' the actress said.

Ranveer, Anushka to pair again in YRF film
It's another offering from Yash Raj Films' and Aditya Chopra is producing the movie based on a story developed by him.
It seems Yash Raj Films is looking to spin the same magic again as the premise of this film sounds similar - 'Ladies V/S Ricky Bahl' is a romantic comedy where a charming conman Ricky Bahl cons girls for a living, but finally meets his match.
It goes on floor early April with plans to be in theatres worldwide on Dec 9 this year.
If the lead pair is repeated, some of the crew members are also from 'Band Baaja Baaraat'.
Habib Faisal has written the dialogues and Devika Bhagat has scripted screenplay. Salim-Sulaiman will compose the music, and Amitabh Bhattacharya will pen the lyrics. The film will be shot by Aseem Mishra (DOP).

Salman Khan felicitates workers of Film City
Salman, invited Film City workers on the music launch and honoured them with clothes.
“When I was shooting for my film ‘Bodyguard’ I realised that there are so many people who work day in and day out and when we organise events we call such people, who don’t even appreciate anything. So I thought that we should call those people who work here,” Salman told reporters here.
“Ideas just come to my idea, so this time I thought why not felicitate the people of film city because these are the people who are the masses also and have also been a part of the film. We have shared such a long relationship with them and no one invites them for any events,” he added.
The workers were very excited to be getting gifts from Salman Khan and being honoured by the entire cast and crew of the film including Asin, Zarine Khan and director Anees Bazmee among others.
Not just this, Salman even opened chocolates and fed children of the workers, making a completely endearing sight.
Asin was elated too, to be part of this music launch with a difference.
“I feel very happy to be in front of the film city workers who have helped us make the film that we have made. It takes a lot of pride and pleasure to showcase our trailors and songs in front of all of them.

Salman Khan pays tribute to Raj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar in ‘Ready’
Insiders have been raving about “Character Dheela”, which has more than one attraction to look forward to. For starters, the groovy number has a special guest appearance by Zarine Khan, who will be seen shaking a leg with Salman.
Secondly, the song will see Salman and Zarine playing different hit Hindi movie pairs of the past – the actors will be seen playing Shahzada Saleem and Anarkali respectively in one act. In another, Salman and Zarine will pay tribute to the showman Raj Kapoor and actress Nargis and the two will also recreate the magic of Viru and Basanti on screen. The song has been choreographed by Mudassar Khan, who has previously choreographed Salman in the superhit “Dabangg”.

Salman Khan’s ladies only bash
The party was on Monday. After the music release of “Ready”, Salman decided to have an impromptu bash in his pad that has been put up for him at Film City for the shooting of his brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri’s “Bodyguard”. His “Ready” co-star Asin and Zarine Khan immediately accompanied Salman.
“Well, it’s true. Salman invited all the female actors from ‘Ready’. We all went up to his very comfortable and large pad with a view. It has a garden and it has a beautiful view outside. Salman makes a wonderful host. The ladies were all happy to be partying. Suddenly Salman remembered their husbands and invited them too,” said Asin, who worked with him in “London Dreams” as well.
“It was great fun though. I was the odd one out since I don’t drink. After a while it gets boring for both me and the others guests to keep wondering why I am not drinking,” she added.
Asin is impressed by Salman’s bonding with the women in the cast. “All the ladies who play his aunts and relatives just dote on him. He makes them all feel like part of his extended family,” said the actress who is taking a break and going home.
“I am taking off for Kerala for a couple of weeks. At the moment I’ve no other Hindi film on hand. So I can afford the time off.”
Asin has apparently been offered everything from Anurag Basu’s “Barfee” to Sajid Nadiadwala’s “Kick”. But after films with Aamir Khan, Salman and Ajay Devgn, she’s at the moment looking at a film with a leading man of her own age group.

I crave to earn respect for my work: Anushka Sharma Interview
Sharma believes, “irrespective of whether the role is small or big, if the role is been conceived with honesty and you are convinced about what you are doing, you do leave a mark,”
Riding high on the success of 'Band Baaja Baarat', the actor confesses, the latest flick has given her the most visibility and confidence and is her favourite among all the other work she has done.
Below is a verbatim transcript of Anushka Sharma’s interview with Anuradha Sengupta on CNBC-TV18's special show 'Beautiful People'. Also watch the accompanying video.
Q: What a fantastic phase in your career and life isn’t it?
A: Yes, for me especially, because I never thought I am going to become an actor. I thought I would be a journalist at one point, or I would be a model, or even an IAS officer, but never an actor. Now that I am an actor today, working with the directors and actors that I have worked with, it just makes me feel happy that life is taking its own path, and I am happily following.
Q: We know that you debuted at the end of 2008 with ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’; but it is really in December 2010 that is two years later with a much smaller film, with a newcomer co-star that actually Anushka Sharma, the actor has been accepted and noticed; isn’t it? What do you think was different where 'Band Baja Barat' was concerned?
A: There were lots of reasons actually. Firstly, I would say, when you come in a film with a big actor like Shahrukh Khan, and then with Shahid Kapur, you cannot leave much of a mark. Secondly, I was low on my visibility which is another reason. However, 'Band Baja Barat' was a film that was more youthful and something that I could relate most. Also, I got to work with a newer actor, a new comer, so, somehow it gave me my own space.
Q: What would you say if I say that 'Band Baja Barat' was actually the best film, in terms of the script, the direction, the production and all of it?
A: 'Band Baja Baraat' was a fresh film. It was young; the characterization was impeccable, and very well etched by the writer Habib. It is my favorite film among the films I have done. So, I would agree with you.
Q: I thought you would be politically correct and say no, your first film was Aditya Chopra’s film, so that is a better film and things like that…
A: No, I am not saying which is better and which is not. 'Band Baja Barat' is my favorite film. I can choose to have my own favorites among my own films. As a audience, I would like to watch films like 'Band Baja Barat'.
Q: When you are an actor and you get a script, what is different when it comes to portraying a character that comes so much to life?
A: When I approach my characters and I have to say my lines in a particular way, I feel that it just comes to me. I read it couple of times and I understand I am supposed to say this. When I was doing 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi', Aditya Chopra once asked me, how do you approach your scene? I had nothing to say, I said I just read it, and then I feel like saying it in a certain way. So, I don’t know how I approach it, I don’t have a method. I just read something and I feel like I need to say these lines in a particular way and it always helps when it is written well.
Q: Heavy praise is floating around for you. What is the best part of so much appreciation?
A: There is a little bit of respect that is coming in, which is more than anything else. Before 'Band Baja Barat' I had faith in myself, I was always trying to prove people that I can do this if I was given the right opportunity. Today, people see it for themselves and they are looking at me in a different way.
Q: Respect is important?
A: It is very important for me. Respect is not when people are standing up as I walk by. Respect as an actress is what everybody seeks for. I crave the most to earn respect for my work.
Q: Do you think respect as an actor is something female actors find difficult to earn?
A: 'Band Baja Barat' wouldn’t have worked if it just had a good looking girl who could dance well in it. So, there are some scripts which require an actor along with other things. The only way that you can earn respect and be successful in the industry being a woman is by being an actor primarily, above your looks and whether you can dance well etc. It cannot be a full package if you are not an actor. Growing up, the actresses that we remember today are the ones you can have been actors.
Q: And not just beautiful women, or stars…?
A: It is important. For me, Rani Mukherjee is beautiful, Madhuri is like stunning, but then they were actresses too.
Q: So respect is something you think Band Baja Barat gave you?
A: I think it gave respect as an actor and also confidence.
Q: Are you nervous that will things will now measure up to that?
A: The director or producer of this film, Aditya Chopra and Manish both tell me this. Actresses would not get films like 'Band Baja Barat' very often. So, I am fortunate that I got it in the beginning of my career. However, I do think that there are a lot of roles that you can just do which may not be that lengthy but they leave that impact.
In my film 'Patiala House', I wasn’t there throughtout on the screen, as much as I was in Band Baja Barat but people have gone out of the theatres, appreciating my work and praising me. So, if you just do your job well, with conviction, whether the role is small or big, if the role is been conceived with some amount of honesty and you are convinced about it, you do leave a mark.
